Six Local Government Units (LGUs) from Aklan province have been congratulated by Provincial Health Office for their successful completion of the two-day Municipal Leadership and Development Program (MLDP), which took place on July 6-7, 2023. LGUs from Numancia, Buruanga, Malinao, Lezo, Nabas, and Ibajay actively participated in the program held at the Istorya Forest Garden.

This initiative, facilitated by the Zuellig Family Foundation and the University of the Philippines Visayas, was designed to equip local leaders with the tools and insights needed to enhance the delivery of Universal Health Care (UHC) in their respective municipalities.

Mayor Mary Lenette R. Fernandez of the Municipality of Lezo expressed her appreciation to the organizers, for their support and involvement in the event. “Your presence truly signifies your all-out support in implementing UHC in our province,” said Fernandez.

The training has been hailed as a crucial step in unlocking the leadership potential of local leaders. It also provided a platform for attendees to share their respective leadership journeys and experiences. The learnings from the MLDP are expected to contribute significantly to the improvement of health care services in the Province of Aklan, aligning with the national objective of UHC.

“The insights and knowledge gained from this program will be instrumental in our mission to enhance Universal Health Care for our constituents,” Mayor Fernandez added.
As the leaders return to their municipalities, they carry with them the lessons and strategies gleaned from the program. The goal is to translate these into actionable plans that will ensure the accessibility and quality of health care services for all residents in the Province of Aklan.

The organizers expressed their gratitude for the active participation and willingness of the LGUs and looked forward to the next batch of training, emphasizing their commitment to a healthy nation. (By Ernan T. Baldomero)
