Women’s Month Celebration Culminates in Symposium on Women’s Rights, Financial Wellness, and Access to Programs

The Municipality of Lezo concluded its Women’s Month celebration with a symposium that aimed to educate and empower women in the community. The event was attended by representatives from various organizations, including VAWC Desk Officers, Women’s Association Officers from 12 Barangays, Federation of Senior Citizen, Federation of PWD, 4Ps Parents Association, BNS Federation, and Live Stocks Association Officers.

Notable speakers at the symposium included Methuselah Norma Janabon from the Department of Labor and Employment-Aklan Field Office, who discussed the importance of associations and the requirements for accreditation and registration.

Hon. Gladwin Dela Cruz, the SK Federation Vice President of Kalibo and a licensed financial adviser, also shared valuable insights on financial wellness, highlighting the significance of savings and investment.

Atty. Marion M. Pescasiosa, MBA, CPA, from Soroptimist International of Kalibo, discussed the salient features of RA 11313 “Safe Spaces Act” or the “Bawal Bastos Law,” with the assistance of Lezo MPS WCPD Chief PMsg. Karen Gail Daño. The presentation provided essential information on safe spaces for women and how to report incidents of harassment or assault.

Dr. Felma R. Dela Cruz presented tips on personal hygiene and addressed the effects of excessive gadget use on women’s health.

The event was hosted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), headed by Mrs. Wenna Mae B. Manares.

The symposium provided valuable information and emphasized the importance of promoting women’s rights, financial wellness, and access to programs in the community. Lezo Municipality deserves commendation for organizing such a successful event that brought together various organizations to support and empower women.(by Ernan Baldomero)
