EMB Recognizes LGUs Effort in Combating Climate Change

The Environment Management Bureau Region 6 has awarded the Local Government Unit of Lezo a Plaque of Recognition for its submission of the Local Climate Change Action Plan on November 25, 2022, at the Smallville 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.

Mayor Mary Lenette R. Fernandez accepted the plaque alongside mayors and their representatives from municipalities and cities throughout Western Visayas.

The Plaque of Recognition received attests to Mayor Fernandez and the LGU Lezo’s unwavering support for the national effort in combating the effects of climate change at the local level through the formulation and implementation of the LCCAP.

The activity was part of Batch 2 of the LGUs recognized in time for the agency’s Climate Change Consciousness Week celebration.

The program began with a message about human intervention from Atty. Ramar Niel V. Pascua, Regional Director of EMB 6. Following that, Mr. Christian Nagaynay, Division Chief for Local Government Capability Development of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 6, discussed local governance and adhering to the required Climate Change Action Plan.

Albert P. Dela Cruz, the Climate Change Commissioner, was also present. He delivered the keynote address and screened a two-part mini-documentary about the work of the Climate Change Commission in Metro Manila.

The officials and their programs centered on combating climate change were recognized by EMB Regional Director Pascua, DILG Division Chief Nagaynay, and Commissioner Dela Cruz, who expressed gratitude to each public servant in attendance.

The creation of the LCCAP for the Municipality of Lezo will aid in the development of its action plans by providing a comprehensive set of programs for dealing with the hazards posed by the deterioration of our climate. (By Ernan T. Baldomero)
